My name is Jakob Falkbring and I was born in march 1977 in Kållered outside of Gothenburg Sweden. I’m extremely interested in sports, especially snowboard, wake-board and athletics, but apart from that I’m pretty normal. I like to hang out with my friends, go to a café, go out and have a beer sometimes, shop when I have some money and maybe play some pool or go bowling. It can also be just as nice to stay home, make some good food and rent a movie or play some playstation.
I try to deal with life as it goes by and not worry to much, sometimes I take things a little bit to cool and do fun things instead of studying but not to the point where i neglect my responsibilities. I’m mainly satisfied with my life but of course things could always be better… But to quote my favorite saying: “The main thing is to have fun” and to be honest that’s what it’s all about, because what is the point of living if you’re not enjoying it. So my advise is find a job that you like because we spend way to much time working and if you hate your work the chance to be happy the rest of the time if heavily reduced. Money isn’t everything!
I generally have two statuses: on and off, if I do something it’s almost always at full speed but it’s just as normal for me to not do anything at all. Of course this isn’t always the case but there’s a lot of truth in it.
I like competitions, it’s not that important to win anymore, often the competition itself is the best part. When I’m out biking or skating on my inlines somewhere and I see someone ahead of me I always have to try and catch up with them for example. I think one reason is that I always have been better at doing things than talking to people, especially when I’m in a group I often get a bit quiet.
I started to train Athletics when I was around 11, my main event was 110m hurdles, but I got tired of it after a lot of injuries and stopped when I was 23 after that I trained sometimes when I felt like it. I coached for a bunch of kids between 15 and 18, some of them really promising, for about a year before I moved to Australia. I also started playing beachvolley, it’s a great sport and you get to know a lot of nice people, I was a member of Göteborgs Beachvolley Club for two years now and trained twice a week plus an extra our or two with my friends sometimes. I also played in a soccer team called BK Larsio in the swedish “korpen” series, most of the teams are just a buch of friend having a good time together, nothing serious but a lot of fun.
In the winter snowboard is the main priority, I have been riding since 1993, but only about a week or two every year. After I gave up my athletics career I went away about 4-5 weeks every year, not extremely much but money is a big problem when you study unfortunately. I have also been riding wakeboard for three summers with two friends. The only problem is that our boat i too small so the waves is pretty tiny, but we have a lot of fun anyway.
When I came to Australia in 2003 I started surfing and It’s a lot of fun but very hard to learn, especially to read the waves. Despite quite a few injury problems (as always when I do something) I feel like I’ve become fairly good at it and I’ve even worked as a surf instructor for a couple of months.
When I’m not doing any sports activities I think it’s great to chill with some friends and just take it easy, watch a movie or go to a café. Playing games, cards or maybe playstation is of course also a favourite way to spend my time. Sometimes it’s nice just to bee by myself, I don’t have a need to always bee with someone or do something.
