After a few geeky posts here on my blog it’s now back to reality! Bec and I went down to Jan Juc for two nights, staying at our old house as we had a few days off together, it was great being back, relaxing and meeting friends. We went surfing both days, I had more fun the first day because the waves where a bit bigger but Bec liked the second day better because it was sunny and the waves where nicer and cleaner. Bec’s really improving in her surfing so now she’s sometimes the one suggesting a surf, both days we ended up at Torquay Surf beach, not really the favourite for any of us but you can’t controll the waves. I went and said hi to all the soccer guys and also met up with Nick, a good friend I met at the surf school who I haven’t really seen since I got back. Bec spent one night in Geelong with Meg fixing up the wedding invites so they are almost done. The weather is still pretty warm for this time of the year so it was great getting out of the city, even if we live in a very green part of the city and close to the beach it’s still so much nicer down the coast.
The weatherinfo you find here on the left is powered by a plugin named WeatherIcon, it works really well but due to problems with both Australia and USA having a timezone they call Eastern Standard Time the day and night icons have been a bit wrong for the Australian weather (they both shorten it EST even though the international code is AEST for Australia). There is a brand new totally rewritten version of WeatherIcon on it’s way and I installed the BETA version of it a few days ago and have now tweaked it to show exactly the way I want, finally!
This week the Australian time shown here is one hour early, the Aussies decided to wait a week to go back from Daylight Savings Time (what we in Sweden call Summer Time) this year, roumors claims it was because they didn’t want to change the time during the Commonwealth Games wich would be just a thing they would do here down under I think.
Both Bec and I are having a couple of days of so we will go down to Jan Juc tonight and stay at our old house, surf and hang out for a couple of day. We haven’t been down since we moved in to our apartment here in Melbourne over a mont ago so it’ll be great to see some friend down there again and hopefully catch a few waves.
I have now updated to Wordpress v:2.02. Wordpress is the program I use to administrate and publish this webpage and after using it for about 6 months I’m really happy with it (the only thing left is to get a good photo album). You as a viewer will probably (hopefully) don’t notice that I’ve updated as most of the new stuff is in the administration part. It was very easy to update, it looks nice and all my plugins (little extra programs to enhance wordpress) seems to work with the upgraded version as well wich feels good. Now I’ll cook a little dinner and relax in front of the TV after going for a 25min swim earlier today.
Next Friday I’m going with Matt to see Hilltop Hoods live in the city, they are playing at the Metro, a place just behind Matt’s job so I’ll probably meet up with him there and have a couple of drinks before. Hilltop hoods is one of the best Aussie hip-hop bands around at the moment and it’ll be great to see them live, it will also be the first time I’m going out in the city since we moved here so I’m looking forward to it. Bec’s working an early shift (07.00) the next morning and aren’t that into hip-hop so she’ll probably stay at home.
On Wednesday Bec and I spent half a day and a fair bit of money at Ikea, buying a table, a rug and lots of other little things. The rest of the day was spent building all the things together and decorating the apartment. After living here for over a month its nice to not having to eat with the plate in you knee any longer, and it’s starting to look more like a home. we have also handed in around 80 photos for printing and once we get them back we will choose acouple to blow up and put around the place. Above you can see some photos of our apartment all nice and neat ![]()
Hi I’m now fairly tired after a big weekend at work, during the 47h from friday 17.00 to Sunday 16.00 I worked 29.5h slept 14h and the rest of the time was eating showering and getting ready for work. I now have sunday night off and don’t start work until 15.00 on Monday so it will be nice to have some rest. So as out can figure out not much news to tell you all about except that I’m slowly getting closer to my kite-board…
The Commonwealth Games are currently on here in Melbourne. I haven’t seen much of it so far but there’s a lot of free concerts and stuff going on around town so on Tuesday two of our friends are coming up from Geelong and we are going to check it out.
On Wednesday I spent about 2h on Skype talking to Johan in USA, Christoffer and Mikael (who by the way has changed his sir name from Andersson to Edlander and will get married in the end of April, Congratulation to you and Nettan). It was great to talk Swedish for a while and hear what was going on back home.
We are now back in the city after experiencing almost every weather possible (except for snowstorm) in three days. We got to the campground late on Friday and had to set up the tent in the dark which didn’t go too bad, the next morning we got up to a chilly cloudy day. We spent the first day on the beach which was just next to the campground, Bec did really well with her surfing but the waves where a bit small for me so I just played around, it cleared up to a really nice day with a little bit of a sea breeze and maybe 25′C. Sunday (my birthday, I’m now one year away from the big 3 0) was scorching hot, we spent most of the day in the water even if there was hardly any surf, but around 3.30 we couldn’t take the sun any more and spent the rest of the day looking like lobsters in the shade on our campsite. I didn’t get a cake but celebrated with fish n chips for dinner. After leaving all doors and windows open in the tent to be able to fall asleep we woke up in the middle of the night from tiny water drops from the sky, I just had time to close up the tent before the terrential rain started and kept going until it was time to pack up the next morning. It didn’t rain too badly when we packed up but it was fairly muddy which made it all so much more fun, we have now cleaned and packed up the tent and also cleaned the car and will just have a relaxing night together. Tomorrow I start working like a madman again but I’ll try not to think about that tonight…
Today I’m having my first day off in almost two weeks and I’ll organise everything for the camping trip (buy an esky, food and a couple of chairs) and pack up the car so we can leave straight away when Bec finishes work at 15.30. The weather forcast is for sun and a top of 35′C on Sunday so it’s a good thing the campground is close to the water!
I’ll very much enjoy getting away for a couple of days because when I get back it’s a big work week ahead of me, in 6 days I’m doing 9 shifts, a total of 60+ hours whoohooo!
On Friday Bec and I are going camping for three nights to Waratah Bay Caravan Park It will be nice to get away and just relax for a couple of days, Bec had 4 days of from the hospital so I took the days off as well. Unfortunately it’s a long weekend so everyone else is going away as well so the campground we ended up at bumped their price about 75%.
Yesterday I picked up the broadband modem so now we are up and running again, I’ll be online on MSN and SKYPE on slightly funny times for all of you in Sweden though. If you get the latest versions of Skype and msn messenger you will be able to see me on my little webcam as well (if you want
ps. at the bottom of this page you can now see my Skype status and call me direct if I’m online,
