We have now lived in our apartment for almost two weeks and we have pretty much settled in. We still don’t have a table though so that’s pretty high on the list as soon as we get a bit of money, also we haven’t really worked out a good place to keep our bikes so they live on the balcony at the moment which isn’t really ideal.

I’ve started two jobs the last week: making coffee’s three days a week at a place around 3km from the apartment and waiting tables at a restaurant just around a corner a couple of times a week. It’s not really the line of work I’m planning on doing the rest of my life but it pays the bills for now while I’m looking for something else.

Now to the phone problems, after finding a good deal for our phone and broadband connection with AAPT we were promised the phone would be up and running this Monday and the broadband modem would arrive around a week later. The phone is still not working and after a couple of phone calls and a lot of time listening to crap “on hold” music I just found out that we can’t get the phone connected because the prior tenant didn’t disconnect it properly. So now we have to try and get a hold of him to disconnect it and then call AAPT to reconnect it and after that it will be at least a week before we get our broadband! so I’m stuck at internet cafe’s for a while longer….

Anyway I’m having a day off today and Bec is at home at the farm so I’ll probably head down to the beach for a swim and enjoy the sun, See you all soon

After a couple of days of moving and getting organised in our new apartment we’re now more or less a settled couple in Melbourne. On friday we hired a van and moved all the things we had stored in our old house in Jan Juc. When we arrived at the rental place at 8.00 they told us that they had double booked the van and if we brought it back before 16.30 we would get a discount, trying to safe a few $ and being time optimists we happily agreed. We now stood infront of the task of driving to Jan Juc (ca 30min) pick up Jane’s bed, pack up all our stuff, drive to Melbourne (1,5h), stop in Geelong on the way so Bec could go to Centerlink and get her unemployment money, unpack all the stuff into our 2nd floor apartment, drive to Jane’s apartment and unload her bed, and drive back to Geelong (1h) withing the time limit. We actually did quite well (Jane’s bed had to stay in our apartment though). On Saturday we bought a fridge, Sunday Bec’s mum brought some more stuff from Mortlake and today I got a casual job at a Cafe starting tomorrow at 12. Now I just have to find a good deal for our phone and broadband connection so I don’t have to use expensive internet cafe’s

Tomorrow Bec and I are moving to Melbourne! We got a nice 2 bedroom apartment in Elwood, 100m to the beach and 300m to the bus that goes straight to The Alfred, the hospital Bec will work at. We’ve rented a van and will pick it up at 8.00 tomorrow morning. We have most things we desperately need except for a fridge but we’ll try and find a good second hand one on Saturday or something and then I’ll have to get a job!

Tomorrow we’re off for another day of house hunting in Melbourne. Another day of sweating in the car to get the possibility to squash with lots of other people in apartments, get lost, rush to make appointments and possibly find something we like. I’ll also try to hand in some resumes in local cafe’s to try and find a quick job. Hopefully we won’t kill each other on the way due to stress and lack of food, and make it back to Juc to see Phil who’s here for a few days before she moves to Perth.

The day after Bec and I got back to Aus we headed up to Melbourne to find us an apartment. After two days of a lot of city driving and after looking at a fare few apartments we’ve decided to focus “Elwood” a suburb close to the water but also close to the hospital where Bec will work. We have found a couple of nice options but not the perfect one yet. We are now back in Jan Juc recharging before looking at at least 5 more apartments on Saturday. There is one that seems really good but we can’t inspect it until Wednesday…
