Anzac day
Sunday 24th April @ 7:42 under category: News

Everything is as usual at work: wet, dirty and unorganized = lots of waiting around. Tomorrow is Anzac (Australia New Zeeland Army Corps?) day, a public holiday so I’m having a day off. After that there’s only a few days left of work at the powerplant but that feels ok. I have earned enough money to last me a while, and get a new surfboard :-)

Back to the plant

Back at the powerplant tomorrow after a few days off. The company I works for att the powerplant layed quite a few people off last week due to lack of work, and unfortunately I was one of the unlucky ones. It seemes like work has picked up again though because I have been called back and start tomorrow morning again. It’s been really nice with a few days off, I’ve been sleeping in, surfing, and fixed a few things around the house. On Saturday night we had a little party for our Danish housemate Anders who turned 25, unfortunately I was too tired after 2 weeks of work to go all night. Regarding a few questions in the guestbook about when I’ll be coming back to Sweden, the answer is that I’ll hopefully be back for a couple of weeks in July if I have enough money. I will defenitely be back for about a month over Christmas and I’ll bring Bec with me.

Sleep in!

I’m having a day off tomorrow :-) Even if the work is’n that tough all the time, doing 12h shifts 6 day in a row takes it out of you a bit (but the money is good) Not sure what I’ll do tomorrow but I’ll start by NOT getting up at 05.45 in the morning!

Working man

After the first few days at the new job I have to say it hasn’t been as bad as I thought. I have also discovered that Australian unions are a little bit nuts. I’m not working too hard so far at my new job (cleaning out a powerplant for their scheduled maintenance). I have operated a remote controlled watercanon most of the time which means looking through a hole and steering the watercanon to the dirtiest place with a joystick. There is a lot of dead time waiting for permits and other things and the breaks are fairly extensive. The unions have the whole place under almost total control, I get paid a good hourly salary + money for lunch + money to cover the cost of travelling to work + 30 min pay each way for travel time to and from work (=1h/day). I have to say that to me that is taking it a bit too far (but I’m happy for the money). If everything goes as planned I will earn enough money for a trip back home, pay off my car and get a new visa. Since I’m working 7am-7pm 6 days a week there isn’t much time left over but for a month that’s ok.
