The races
Monday 15th November @ 8:04 under category: News

Went to the horse races on Saturday, was quite a lot of fun even if my betting wasn’t a great success. The whole weekend evolved around the races. Me and Bec went back to her parents farm on friday arvo (afternoon) because it was closer to the races from there. Three of Becs friends: Anne, Jude and Jess also stayed there. The next morning we where supposed to leave pretty early to get a good spot at the races, but the weather was crap and Bec ha lost her voice and could only produce some little squeking noices, so she decided to stay in bed and catch up with us later. When we finally got to the races the weather was better, just a few showers every now and then. The racecourse was just a racecourse in the middle of the farmland, no big stands or anything so we parked the car next to the track so we could sit on the boot and look and drink beer (the most important thing I soon realised) without getting wet. The tradition is that everyone get dressed up in fancy dresses and stuff but because of the weather the cloathing was a bit more casual. I only placed a few bets but since I don’t know much about Australian race horses it was pretty random, but fun, and I didn’t loose any big amounts (”Surfey Pete” was my only winner). We had planned to stay in Hamilton, the nearest big town, over night, but since Bec was sick she took the car and we went back to Mortlake, where her farm is. We picked up Matt in Geelong on the way back on Sunday and him and me went for a pretty crappy surf, but it’s still always nice to get in the water.
